I'm Ruut, a freelance designer working in Helsinki. I create print designs, illustrations, layout designs, ceramics, logos and everything in-between.
All About Me
I would have to describe myself with three words, I’d say I’m kind, positive and creative. I live and breath for design, aesthetics and just beauty in general. I believe that good stories and right atmospheres takes you long way. I love colors, storytelling illustrations and prints as well as beautiful details, yet I also get inspired by clarity and well controlled entireties.
I’m born in Tampere, but I have lived most of my life in Helsinki, where I’ve done all my education, all the way from a 1st grader in a French school to my Master studies in Aalto University, which I finished in 2018. In between I’ve also lived and worked abroad, in Paris, Australia and Stockholm.
I’ve always loved good stories and adventures, my own biggest and craziest one, I had in 2013, when I travelled by myself with a train through Siberia all the way to China, ending up in Australia where I met my husband from Malmö.
I like to challenge myself and I think learning new is the greatest asset, which was one of the reasons to jumped a bit outside of my comfort zone and started as a freelancer in 2020.
At the moment I'm working as a full time designer in Martinex, designing the Moomin kidswear and Ma-ia Family collections.

Competitions and achievements
As a freelance designer I have collaborated with companies like Konto, Beana, Eurokangas, Martinex, Kitty's Milkshakebar, HAC, Aarrelabel to name few.
TAIKE GRANT FOR AN ILLUSTRATED BOOK, 2021
PRINT & MEDIA COVERPHOTO COMPETITION, WINNER 2021
I won the cover picture competition in summer 2021 with my illustration. The illustration work was on the cover of Print&Media magazine on the June issue.
COME TO SWEDEN POSTER COMPETITON, 2ND PLACE 2020
My poster design called "All Aboard" was voted on 2nd place in a travel poster competition organized by Come to Sweden.
JOENSUU CITY FLAG COMPETITION, 2ND PLACE 2020
My city flag design "Bird Fly" was rewarded with the second place on the competition organized by the city of Joensuu.
